A mother from Ruai Constituency in Nairobi is heavily reeling in pain and disbelief following the untimely and tragic death of her daughter, allegedly caused by her maid

The woman who is believed to be the mother of one by the name, Ann Wanjiru is struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss of her young child, who died while sleeping.

However, Wanjiru believes her househelp, Joyce Onyango, may have been involved in the death of the four-year-old, as she recounted what transpired.

The grieving mother said they had disagreed over the househelp’s salary, which allegedly led Joyce to give the child a harmful substance.

“She started working for me on Friday, April 3, and I told her I would pay her on Sunday, May 3. However, she insisted on being paid on Friday, May 1, but it was not possible because I had travelled and did not have the money at the time,” Wanjiru stated.

Wanjiru recalled receiving a phone call from a woman claiming to be Joyce’s mother, who insulted her over the delayed KSh 6,000 salary.

According to Wanjiru, Onyango later said she would leave the child with a neighbour as she reportedly travelled back home to Kisumu.

“I called Joyce to ask how my child was doing, and she told me she was fine and playing.
She also mentioned that she was leaving for Kisumu.

“When I returned home, I found my daughter playing. I had bought her some snacks. She asked for sweets, and I gave her some, but she vomited. I thought maybe she was full or reacting to something she had eaten,” she explained.

Wanjiru added that her daughter later said she was tired and took a nap on the seat before waking up to ask for water. After drinking water, they had supper, and the four-year-old said she wanted to sleep as she still felt tired.

“I took her to the bedroom and ensured she was well covered. I then returned to the living room. Around 11 pm, I went to check on her, but she was unresponsive. When I touched her, she felt cold. I called a neighbour, and we rushed her to the hospital, but doctors were unable to revive her,” she said emotionally.
