The Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) has reaffirmed its independence and non-partisan position amid public concerns over reports of an alleged planned visit by some clergy to State House to seek financial assistance.
In a statement dated August 28, 2026, PCEA Moderator of the 24th General Assembly, Rt. Rev. Thegu Mutahi, assured church members that the institution remains committed to political neutrality and will not allow its financial challenges to compromise its conscience, doctrines or ability to speak truth to power.
“For the avoidance of doubt, PCEA is not organizing, sponsoring or endorsing any delegation to visit any politician to seek financial favours or political patronage,” the Moderator said
He said the position applies to any proposed engagement at State House, Wamunyoro, Tseikuru or Sisi ndio Sifuna, stressing that the Church’s faith, doctrines and calling cannot be compromised.
The statement follows media attention generated by a trending clip alleging that some clergy were planning to visit State House in pursuit of financial favours.
Rev. Mutahi urged PCEA members to remain calm, prayerful and confident in the Church, maintaining that the institution will continue to guard its independence from partisan political interests.
