Opposition will get credit should contractors stop building affordable units: UDA MP

Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Ruku is now  claiming that if contractors stops constructing affordable housng units, it will be deemed that they are supporting opposition on opposing government agendas. 

Speaking at Parliament Buildings on Wednesday 31st January, Ruku, appealed both speakers of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula and Senate’s Speaker Amason Kingi as well as both clerks to convene a special sitting so as to fastrack the passing of the bill 

“I want to warn contractors that we shall terminate their contracts should they stop workers from constructing affordable housing units because we shall be deemed as failures.

Any attempts to follow court ruling means we are dancing to the rune of Azimio who don’t want affordable housing programme to continue,” Ruku observed

He further stated that government may consider terminating their contracts should they stop labourers from work following the ruling that the programme is unconstitutional and find another contractors who are ready to bulldoze the projects in devoid of cour ruling 

The first term and vocal legislator allied to President William Ruto’s Party UDA, urged both speakers of the bicameral parliament and the clerks to start with the affordable housing bill which relevant departmental committeez have been collecting stakeholders views before tabling at parliament for reading 

The bill, according to MP, should be the first one to be tabled and be passed and assented by President to allow the continuation of the programme which has received setbacks from judiciary and opposition as well as some stakeholders
