Former Cabinet Secretary for East Africa Community, ASALs and Regional Development Peninah Malonza has raised concerns and outrageous act over the alarming surge in insecurity in Kitui County, particularly in Kitui town and Tseikuru

In her statement seen by Safi News on Monday 27th, Malonza noted that in less than one month, Kitui town has witnessed the brutal killing of at least four women under circumstances that strongly point to a disturbing pattern of gender-based violence and possible femicide.

“These incidents have instilled fear among residents and raised urgent concerns about the safety of women and the effectiveness of existing security interventions, ” Part of statement read.

She equally stated, “troubling is the horrific incident reported in Tseikuru, where seven people were killed in an attack allegedly linked to armed herders. This act of violence underscores the growing threat posed by armed groups and the vulnerability of communities in ASAL regions, “.

Malonza who hails from Mutha Ward in Kitui South said that she appreciates the swift response by H.E. President William S. Ruto in deploying the Deputy Inspector General of Police, as well as the commitment made to enhance security and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

“ I also commend the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for their prompt action in arresting individuals accused of inciting communities, ” She added.

However, these incidents are not isolated. They point to a broader breakdown in security coordination, prevention, and response mechanisms. The continued loss of innocent lives is unacceptable.

According to former CS, she recommended immediate, thorough, and transparent investigations into all reported killings, with perpetrators brought to justice without delay.

Enhanced and sustained security presence in Kitui Town, Tseikuru, and surrounding areas to restore public confidence.

Targeted and decisive action to address gender-based violence, including strengthened protection mechanisms for women at risk.
