NAIROBI, July 9 – Smartphone manufacturer TECNO has introduced EllaClaw, a new artificial intelligence (AI) agent aimed at making smartphones more proactive by helping users complete everyday tasks with minimal manual input.
Currently available in a closed beta on the CAMON 50 Ultra 5G, EllaClaw is integrated into the company’s AI assistant, Ella, as TECNO expands its investment in what it describes as “Practical AI”—technology designed to perform real-world tasks rather than simply respond to text prompts.
The AI assistant is capable of carrying out a range of functions, including optimizing phone performance, monitoring mobile data usage, organizing messages, summarizing daily activities and navigating supported third-party applications to complete tasks such as booking rides or ordering services with user approval.
TECNO says the technology is built around three key capabilities: phone performance management, cross-app intelligence and proactive digital assistance. Instead of requiring users to manually adjust settings, EllaClaw can automatically identify issues such as overheating, excessive battery consumption or heavy background activity and optimize the device after receiving a simple voice command.
The company has also incorporated Smart Data Guardian, a feature that monitors mobile data consumption, detects unusual usage patterns and alerts users before excessive data is consumed.
Beyond device management, EllaClaw is designed to interact with compatible third-party applications, allowing users to request services through a single command instead of switching between multiple apps.
The AI interprets application interfaces and performs tasks across supported transport, shopping, food delivery, travel and smart home platforms.
TECNO noted that the system remains in beta and may not support every application consistently, but said the technology demonstrates the growing role of agentic AI in automating routine digital activities.
The company has emphasized privacy and security as central features of the platform. Every interaction involving personal information or third-party applications requires explicit user permission, while sensitive actions such as making calls, sending messages or modifying contacts require additional confirmation before execution.
Users can monitor every step performed by the AI assistant and pause or cancel tasks at any time. TECNO added that EllaClaw does not access payment, money transfer or digital wallet interfaces.
The launch comes as smartphone manufacturers increasingly compete by integrating AI capabilities into mobile devices, with the focus shifting from chatbot-style interactions to intelligent assistants capable of independently completing tasks on behalf of users.
TECNO believes such technologies will reduce the time users spend managing their smartphones, allowing them to focus on work, creativity and personal activities.
The company operates in more than 70 markets worldwide and continues to expand its portfolio of AI-powered smartphones, wearables, tablets, laptops and smart home products as demand for intelligent mobile experiences grows.
