Kenya’s national television lost her shareholding to private companies originating from South Africa

It was established that KBC don’t access any dividends from the frequencies transferred to Multichoice and GOTV

The committee is still probing all relevant stakeholders including CA to find out how they authorised the transfers without due process

Directors of GOTV and Multichoice are expected to appear before the National Assembly Committee on Public Investments and Social Services to explain how Kenya Broadcasting Corporation lost 40 percentum of it’s shareholding to GoTV

Appearing before the National Assembly Committee on Wednesday 13th December, Communication Authority of Kenya [CAK] which is the regulator failed to answer satisfactorily to what conspired the exclusion of the state owned broadcasting corporation in the sharing benefits 

“It’s crystal clear that KBC can’t access any dividends from the Multichoice arrangements. You can’t say KBC was dropped along the way, yet you are the one who transferred the frequencies to GOTV and you listed these individuals as shareholders. 

Where does the name of KBC appear in this list? Does it mean that government parastatal lost all her assets in the transfer process to these South African Individuals,” Committee Chair Emmanuel Wangwe charged  

He ordered that the  CAK’s Director General and the chair of the board to appear and appraise the committee on the first week of January 2024 so as to explain what happened 

Sources privy to the ongoing investigations have indicated that former Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Information Communication and Technology Dr Bitange Ndemo was directly involved in the transfer of KBC’s signals to Multichoice 

The Public Investments Committee on Social Services, Administration and  Agriculture will be seeking answers tomorrow Thursday 14th December, from Retief Tromp a Director at MultiChoice Kenya Limited to apprise the Committee on the ownership of MultiChoice Kenya Limited.

Further Mr. Nzola Miranda, Managing Director, MultiChoice Kenya will also be required to apprise the Committee on the Circumstances surrounding the shareholding and ownership of MultiChoice Kenya.

The Managing Director GOtv to apprise the Committee on the circumstances surrounding the acquisition of KBC TV Frequencies by GOtv Kenya.

Wangwe noted that Mr Stephen Isaboke, Chairman GOtv Kenya, is the person of interest and will be forced to apprise the Committee on the business partnership between Kenya Broadcasting Corporation and GOtv Kenya, the transfer of KBC TV frequencies to GOtv Kenya and the CO-Location agreement between the National Broadcaster and GOtv.
