NAIROBI, July 8 (Safi News) – Presidential hopeful and leader of the People’s Prosperity Party (PPP), Eliud Owalo, has officially declared his bid for the presidency in the 2027 General Election, pledging to spearhead what he termed an economic transformation aimed at reducing poverty, creating jobs and expanding opportunities for all Kenyans.

Speaking during the unveiling of the party’s headquarters, Ustawi House, in Nairobi, Owalo said he would seek the presidency on the PPP ticket after being endorsed as the party’s flag bearer.

He expressed confidence that Kenyans would elect him in the 2027 General Election, saying his administration would prioritise inclusive economic growth and what he described as the country’s “third liberation” through economic empowerment.

Owalo said his leadership would depart from what he termed as “business-as-usual” politics by embracing people-centred governance anchored on the Constitution, accountability and the rule of law.

The former Cabinet Secretary said Kenya has made significant political milestones since independence but argued that many citizens continue to face poverty, unemployment and inequality.

According to Owalo, millions of Kenyans still live below the poverty line, with many households struggling to access adequate food, healthcare, clean water and decent housing.

He said the country should focus on breaking the cycle of generational poverty by investing in productive sectors of the economy, expanding access to education, improving healthcare and creating employment opportunities for young people.

Owalo noted that Kenya’s farmers, fishermen, artisans, construction workers, traders and factory employees remain the backbone of the economy but often receive only a small share of the value created from their labour.

He attributed this to weaknesses within value chains, where intermediaries and processors capture a larger share of profits than primary producers.

To address the challenge, he proposed strengthening value addition through increased investment in processing facilities, cold storage, packaging, branding and export infrastructure to enable producers to earn higher returns from their products.

He said such measures would boost household incomes, create employment opportunities and stimulate growth in manufacturing, logistics and agribusiness.

Owalo further called for broader economic interventions in marginalised areas, arguing that existing constitutional mechanisms, including the Equalisation Fund, should be complemented by programmes targeting employment creation, access to credit, markets and enterprise development.

He said the PPP government would pursue policies aimed at ensuring wealth is distributed more equitably while promoting social justice, productivity and shared prosperity.

The presidential aspirant urged Kenyans to support his agenda, saying the country’s next phase of development should focus on empowering citizens economically and ensuring the benefits of growth reach all regions and communities.
