Challenged President William Ruto over declaring public holiday today and instead ordered workers to plant trees

A lobby group has now poked holes into President William Ruto’s declaration of today as a public holiday and at the same time ordered general public to plant trees in honour of those who perished following heavy downpour

According to the statements send to newsrooms on Friday 10th May, Operation Linda Ugatuzi Chair Prof Fred Ogolla, told President William Ruto that he is being misadvised by those who are close to him

“On holiday bodaboda operators and uber drivers who take children to school and those working for the government go to bed on an empty stomach. Today I was walking around at Kangemi and Kawangware and saw several people who are hopeless, they can’t even take their ulcers and ARVs medication because their stomach is empty,” Ogolla stated

He challenged President William Ruto that the decision to order general public to plant trees on already declared holiday was ill advised, and that, he should prepare the 2027 campaigns because it will be against the political conmem and the people of Kenya

“Let the President know that 2027 will be a very different election year, Kenyans want Hewa Mpya. For those who talk about two horses race, we agree. But this time, the choice will be between the political conmen and concerned kenyans,” he observed

Additionally, the initiative’s members have alleged that Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has been collecting Sh 2 million from every developer who wants to put up a storey building immediately after they are issued with construction certificate

“With the 300,000 units approved to be constructed in Nairobi this year, it’s Sh 60 billion has been shared by Governor and President,” A statement which is owned by the Governance Expert Prof Fred Ogolla who is the chair of the society, read in part.

Subsequently, he called Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission [EACC] to investigate and prosecute Governor Sakaja, former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko, former Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho as well as Kilifi and Kwale former Governors Amoson Jeffah Kingi and Salim Mvurya respectively

Kingi is now serving as the Speaker of the Senate whereas Mvurya is now serving under the current regime as Cabinet Secretary for Mining and Blue Economy

He said all those governors were used by governement agencies to irregularly and illegally approve construction of buildings in riparian lands endagaring lives of innocent tenants- hence should be held responsible and prosecuted
