Elgeyo Marakwet: Kenya_Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has intensified his criticism of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of fostering political intolerance and orchestrating violence through criminal groups.
Addressing residents during the launch of the Kabiemit Community Empowerment Programme at Kimwogo Grounds in Elgeyo Marakwet County on Saturday, Murkomen alleged that Gachagua had become the driving force behind violent political activities witnessed in parts of the country.
Without providing evidence to support the claims, the Cabinet Secretary described the former deputy president as the “father of violence,” insisting that he understood Gachagua’s political methods and intentions.
Murkomen further claimed that Gachagua had for years misled Kenyans through what he termed dishonest politics but argued that the public was increasingly able to distinguish between genuine leadership and political manipulation.
The CS’s remarks came just days after the June 25 protests, which turned violent in several parts of the country.
He alleged that some opposition politicians had attempted to exploit the demonstrations by mobilising criminal gangs to cause chaos and undermine public order.
He warned that the government would pursue anyone found recruiting, financing or directing gangs to engage in violence, saying security agencies would act within the law regardless of an individual’s political status.
“The government will not tolerate the use of criminal elements to achieve political objectives. Those found culpable will face the full force of the law,” Murkomen said.
He urged leaders to pursue their political differences peacefully and through constitutional means, maintaining that the government remained committed to protecting lives, property and national stability.

Murkomen spoke during an empowerment event organised by Elgeyo Marakwet Woman Representative Caroline Ngelechei in partnership with the OKM Foundation.
The initiative seeks to boost economic opportunities through job creation, entrepreneurship and financial inclusion in the county.
The event was attended by Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich, County Assembly Speaker Lawi Kibire, Keiyo South MP Gideon Kimaiyo, Aldai MP Marianne Kitany, Members of the County Assembly and other local leaders.
Gachagua had not issued an immediate response to the allegations by the time this article was published.
