- A section of Azimio’s coalition legislators mainly from Jubilee Partys supports the move by NEC to join Ruto’s camp
- They stated that they concur with the resolution of the Party’s National Executive Council to exit the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition within a period of six months
A section of former Jubilee Party Members of Parliament who lost in last year’s election have expressed support for President William Ruto’s administration in the wake of cracks within the Azimio Coalition.
Led by Former Kiambu Township MP Jude Njomo said the decision was in the interest of their constituents.
“We are still bonafide members of the Jubilee Party, but we recognize the direction the top organ of the party is taking us,” Njomo said.
“We are also adding that we will not participate in anything that is meant to disrupt the cohesion of the country.”
The immediate former legislators also stated that they concur with the resolution of the Party’s National Executive Council to exit the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition within a period of six months
“We are in full support of the resolutions made by the NEC jointly with the Parliamentary Group meeting in Naivasha. That further changes will be made soon to revamp our Jubilee Party,” Njomo said.
Those who flanked Njomo include former Igembe North MP Maoka Maore and Kasarani’s Mercy Gakuya.
Jubilee coup
Jubilee Party initiated the process to exit the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya within a period of six months.
The outfit was part of the larger Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance that ran against President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance in the August 2022 polls.
The political party will hold a Special National Delegates Convention by July to ratify the resolution of the party’s top organ to quit Azimio.
The simmering battle for the control of Jubilee Party by both Kenya Kwanza Alliance and Azimio La Umoja One Kenya ensued with the Azimio-allied faction purporting to suspend the pro-Ruto group from the party.
The Ruto-allied group convened a National Executive Committee and suspended Vice Chair David Murathe, the Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni and National Treasurer Kagwe Gichochi.
The group that took control of NEC vowed to outfit sign a cooperation agreement with Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
Kioni, whose position in the party remains unclear, refuted claims that the former ruling party had joined forces with the Kenya Kwanza and asserted that he is still the bonafine Secretary General dismissing Fridat’s leadership coup as futile.
