Kitui Governor Dr Julius Malombe (EGH) on Wednesday 15th February made a courtesy call on the PS State Department of Irrigation Gitonga Mugambi at his office in Maji House, Nairobi.

The meeting discussed areas of collaboration on irrigation investments in Kitui County through:

•√ Major multipurpose schemes: Usueni/Wikithuki gravity fed irrigation system.

•√ Sand dams programme for small holder irrigation, water for domestic, livestock and natural re-greening.

The county government of Kitui is keen on increasing water for domestic use and also irrigation to counter the unreliable rain-fed farming.

The county is also developing a sustainable sand harvesting management policy to foster environmental conservation.

A team from the department of Irrigation led by the PS Gitonga Mugambi is set to tour Kitui County in the near future to visit the project sites and assess the extent of collaboration with the Governor Malombe led administration.

Accompanying the governor were the County Executive Committee Member for Water and Irrigation Peter Nkunda, CECM for Agriculture and Livestock Stephen Kimwele, Water Chief Officer Nathan Vungo, Irrigation Chief Officer Gladys Wambua, Agriculture Chief Officer Nelly Mutisya and the newly appointed Advisor on Irrigation Eng. Nicholas Muthui.

The delegation also included SEKU University Professor from the School of Water Resource John Kitheka and county government Senior officials from the ministries involved Eng. Ken Mutati, Francis Kitoo and Paul Kaleve.
