- Tourism CS Peninah Malonza assures to partner with tourist investor to scale up tourism sector in the country
- She maintained that President William Ruto will soon split Kitui to have Mwingi and Kitui County as promised
Cabinet Secretary for Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage Penina Malonza has assured kenyans that she has set aside Ksh 2.6 billion for compensation of victims of human-wildlife conflicts
Speaking on Tuesday 8th November at Katse town in Mumoni Ward, Mwingi North sub county, Ms Malonza said she is awaiting parliamentary approval for her subsidiary budgetary bill to immediately compensate the victims
“Right now we have huge debts for the people who were bitten by snakes and others their farms were destroyed by murrounding elephants, is amounting to Ksh 5B, soon after getting into office.
I have worked on their compensatory budget from August 2021 until October 2022 and the figures have turned to be Ksh 2.6 billion close to Ksh 3B, so they’ll soon receive their compensation,” Malonza affirmed
She further promised to work in collaboration with the county governments in order to scale the tourism industry in every county establishment
On matters splitting Kitui County to have a sister County called Mwingi, Malonza said they are working hard with other likeminded leaders from Ukambani to ensure President William Ruto actualizes what he’d promised during the campaign trial in vast Kitui County
“What is wrong of us having Mwingi County and Kitui County so if Kitui gets Ksh 10 billion, Mwingi also gets Ksh 10 billion? Isn’t it good for the development of our people? We are committed to ensure that comes to reality for it was part of our economic blueprint,” She added
This, she made, budget allocation from National Revenue Sharing formula will see larger Kitui banking with Ksh 20 billion which will spur development in the region including establishment of tourism destination facilities
“I have talked to the biggest tourist investor from our neighbouring country Tanzania Mr Adams who has biggest game reserve in Tanzania and he has already taken up katse wildlife to set up a game reserve in Mwingi North so that we can attract tourists in our area as well adding value addition.
Even our grannies will perform traditional dances infront of whites and other domestic tourist in order to entertain them as they make their livelihoods,” Malonza opined
