TECNO Launches Global AI Portrait Project in Nairobi to Champion Authentic Human Representation

NAIROBI, July 6 (Safi News) – Global technology brand TECNO has launched a two-year global initiative in Nairobi aimed at promoting authentic human representation and encouraging inclusive use of artificial intelligence (AI) in visual storytelling.
Dubbed “100 Portraits of Becoming,” the project is a collaboration between TECNO and renowned Brazilian visual artist Angélica Dass.
The initiative seeks to document 100 portraits of people from diverse backgrounds across five countries, highlighting their unique life journeys and identities.
The programme comes at a time when artificial intelligence is playing an increasingly significant role in shaping how people are seen and represented, raising concerns over bias and the need for technology to reflect the diversity of humanity.

According to TECNO, the initiative is founded on the belief that technology should help the world see people more truthfully rather than reinforce stereotypes.
Through the project, the company aims to showcase authentic stories that celebrate identity, dignity and the richness of human experiences.

The portraits will form a living archive capturing different stages of people’s lives and personal journeys, while encouraging a global conversation on representation in the AI era.
By bringing together art and technology, TECNO and Dass hope the project will demonstrate how innovation can be used to promote inclusion, challenge conventional perceptions and preserve the authenticity of human identity.
The global initiative, which officially begins in Nairobi, will run for two years before expanding to other participating countries, with a target of producing 100 portraits that reflect the many ways people experience and define their own humanity.
