United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Patrick Musili Mbangula has called on Kibra residents and Nairobi voters to support his bid for the county’s top seat, promising to transform the capital through improved water supply, job creation and economic empowerment.
Mbangula, who was appointed Chairman of the Kenya Water Institute (KEWI) by President William Ruto, said his leadership would prioritise addressing Nairobi’s persistent water shortage and ensure residents have access to sufficient, safe and clean water.
He observed that access to reliable water remains a major challenge for many Nairobi residents, particularly those living in densely populated informal settlements, where households often struggle to obtain the essential commodity.
The gubernatorial aspirant said his experience in the water sector had equipped him with the knowledge and understanding necessary to develop sustainable solutions to the county’s water challenges.
He pledged to prioritise water infrastructure development, improve distribution systems and pursue initiatives that would ensure households across Nairobi receive adequate and clean water for domestic use.
Mbangula further promised to create employment opportunities for Nairobi’s growing population, particularly young people who continue to face challenges securing meaningful livelihoods.
He said his administration would pursue economic empowerment initiatives and work closely with relevant national government agencies and development partners to expand opportunities for residents.
The aspirant also pledged to lobby for employment opportunities abroad, saying Nairobi’s youthful population should be connected to opportunities beyond the country’s borders through partnerships and employment programmes.
He urged young people to take advantage of national government empowerment programmes instead of engaging in criminal activities, warning that goonism, violence and other unlawful practices would undermine their future and the development of the city.
Mbangula encouraged residents to embrace constructive engagement, entrepreneurship and skills development as sustainable pathways towards improving their livelihoods.
He particularly appealed to the youth to distance themselves from political violence and criminal gangs, noting that meaningful participation in development programmes offered better prospects for their future.
On national politics, the UDA aspirant called on Nairobi residents to support President William Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027, arguing that continued support for the national government would provide an opportunity to advance development programmes and strengthen collaboration between the national and county governments.
He said cooperation between the two levels of government would be important in addressing challenges affecting Nairobi and accelerating development projects.
Mbangula made the remarks after attending a church service at the African Inland Church (AIC) in Kibra, where he made a personal contribution of Sh100,000 towards the church’s development projects.
He said supporting religious institutions was part of recognising their contribution to society, particularly in promoting moral values, unity and community development.
The gubernatorial aspirant was accompanied by several UDA aspirants seeking various elective positions in Nairobi County, among them Faith Nguthu, who is seeking the Nairobi Woman Representative seat on the party’s ticket.
The aspirants also appealed to residents to support UDA candidates in the forthcoming General Election, pledging to work collectively towards transforming Nairobi through improved service delivery, economic empowerment and development initiatives.
They called on residents to evaluate candidates based on their development agendas and commitment to addressing challenges affecting communities across the county.
Mbangula’s gubernatorial bid comes at a time when Nairobi residents continue to demand improved essential services, reliable water supply, better infrastructure, employment opportunities and effective management of county resources.
Water scarcity remains among the major concerns in several parts of the capital, with residents in informal settlements particularly affected by inadequate supply and the high cost of accessing water.
His pledge to prioritise water provision, alongside job creation and youth empowerment, places these issues at the centre of his campaign agenda as he seeks to persuade Nairobi voters to entrust him with the county’s leadership.
The aspirant urged Kibra residents to rally behind his candidature and support the UDA team, saying collective leadership and cooperation would be necessary to deliver meaningful change in Nairobi.
