ABAQDERA, GARISSA COUNTY – Former Fafi Member of Parliament Abdikarim Osman has called on residents of Northeastern Kenya to support President William Ruto’s re-election, saying the region has witnessed increased government investment under the current administration.
Addressing residents during a community meeting in Abaqdera, Osman pointed to several flagship projects, including the construction of Wajir Stadium, the Garissa–Tana River Bridge, and reforms to the national identity card registration process, as evidence of the government’s commitment to improving livelihoods in the region.
The former legislator said the abolition of mandatory vetting for national identity card applicants had eased access to the crucial document, ending years of frustration experienced by many residents.
He recalled that during his tenure as MP, many people from the region endured lengthy vetting procedures before obtaining identity cards, with some allegedly forced to part with money to complete the process.
“Today, obtaining an identity card is free. Applicants only need to go through the normal registration process with the local administration and registration officers. This has made life much easier for our people,” Osman said.
He also praised the government’s continued investment in the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor project, saying the infrastructure programme is expected to unlock trade, create jobs and stimulate economic growth across Northeastern Kenya.

Osman further welcomed the reopening of the passport office in Garissa, saying residents no longer have to travel to Nairobi to access passport services.
“Our people can now receive passport services closer to home. Even pilgrims travelling for Hajj have been able to collect their passports in Garissa, saving them both time and travel costs,” he said.
The former MP argued that President Ruto has demonstrated his commitment to the region through development projects and policy reforms, including hosting this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations in Wajir County.
He urged residents and the wider Muslim community to support the President’s development agenda, saying sustained government investment would accelerate socio-economic transformation in the region.
During the visit, Osman also outlined his development agenda for Fafi Constituency as he appealed to residents to support his bid to return to Parliament in the next General Election
