Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja’s Keroche Breweries is among the 24 second-generation alcohol companies suspended by the goverment’s multi agency team led by Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof Kithure Kindiki
Only two companies found to have complied with the set regulations and subsequently allowed to continue with production by the Interior and National Administration Boss
Revealing the outcome of the vetting of manufacturers and distillers of second generation alcohol country wide, after the 29 companies presented their names fir vetting, Kithure said only two had qualified
The measures taken included the immediate suspension of all licenses permits and authorizations for the manufacturer and distillery of second generation alcohol
He had ordered fresh vetting be undertaken by 8 agencies including national authority for the campaign against drug abuse, kenya bureau of standards, anti counterfeit agency as well as public health and safety department among others
The two entities found to be in full complied by all agencies and consequently allowed to resume production were Kenya Nut Company and UDV owned by Diageo PLC commonly known as East Africa Breweries Ltd

THREE COMPANIES INCLUDING KENYA WINE AGENCIES, SAVANA BRANDS COMPANY AND PATIALA DISTILLERS WERE FOUND TO BE COMPLIANT AND ORDERED TO RESUME PRODUCTION AFTER MEETING LIGHT OBJECTIONS WHERE LATTER HAS DISPUTE WITH KENYA BUREAU OF STANDARDS AND A POSITIVE NOISE LEVEL MANAGEMENT REPORT FROM THE DIRECTORATE OF OCCUPPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH SERVICES
HOWEVER, THE AFFECTED ENTITIES WILL BE GIVEN 21 DAYS NOTICE AS FROM 8TH APRIL, 2024 TO MAKE SURE THEY FULLY COMPLY
