Kitui Governor Dr. Malombe (EGH) has held consultations with officers from the National Ministry of Health led by Ms Florence Wakesho, the Medical Parasitologist Schistosomiasis & Soil Transmitted Helminthes Focal Person at his office.

Kituiā€™s health information system statistics indicate that 2174 persons suffered Bilharzia/Schistosomiasis and 181942 cases of intestinal worms (under five and over 5 years) in the last four years.

Kitui will have a door to door Mass Drug Administration between 8th and 11th June, 2023 organized by the Ministry of Health & the WHO to ensure that all eligible individuals at the risk communities swallow the recommended drugs.

The National Strategy of breaking the transmissions seeks to increase mass drug administration coverage in all endemic sub-counties, expand neglected tropical diseases related to water and sanitation interventions, intensify advocacy, coordination and partnership in neglected tropical disease control and elimination and plan for results,  resource mobilization and financial sustainability among others.

In his remarks, Governor Malombe said his government is keen on upholding and supporting the preventive and promotive healthcare noting that his administration has increased the Promotive and Preventive budget allocation from 6% to 36% currently.

The CECM for Health & Sanitation Ruth Koki and CO Lynn Kitwann also attended the meeting among other officers.

However, the Minority Leaader from the County Assembly of Kitui Alex Nganga has accused Malombe over the commissioning of the county sand harvesting and management yesterday, criticizing him of recycling old administration for lack of seriousness in solving the sand cartels in the county

“Governor seems to be in trouble after the reports that Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission will be investigating graft allegations thus haggling on anything that keeps him on good records with the EACC especially now that the commission is at the middle of investigating some graft allegations levelled against his administration,” Nganga stated
