The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that it plans to ban the livestreaming of election activities, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In a statement, the electoral commission clarified that it has neither proposed nor approved any regulation seeking to prohibit media houses, observers, political parties or members of the public from livestreaming electoral processes.
The Commission urged Kenyans to disregard the reports, saying they were intended to create unnecessary confusion over the management of future elections.
IEBC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and credible elections, noting that openness remains a key pillar in strengthening public confidence in the country’s electoral process.
The Commission further encouraged citizens to rely on official IEBC communication channels for verified information and cautioned against the spread of misinformation, particularly on matters relating to elections.
The clarification comes amid heightened public interest in electoral reforms and preparations for future polls, with stakeholders closely monitoring any proposed changes to election management.
IEBC reiterated that any policy or legal proposals affecting the conduct of elections would be communicated through the appropriate public participation and legal processes, not through unofficial reports circulating online.
