Babu Owino, Gaucho Arrested in Nairobi

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Paul Ongiri alias Babu Owino and Calvin Okoth alias Gaucho have been arrested by police in Nairobi

Safi News has established, Owino was pounced at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport after landing from Mombasa where he had flown to for a series of preparations plans ahead of today’s opposition’s demonstrations

The vocal legislator took to social media to explain to his supporters that he had been locked under police custody at DCI offices

“Have been detained by police officers at JKIA, after landing from Mombasa, currently am at DCI offices,” he tweeted

Owino has been vehemently condemning police brutality during peaceful demonstrations despite his woes with the party boss over the schemery of the passage of finance act 2023

He is reported to have been a very crucial leader in the opposition’s countrywide demonstrations starting today on Wednesday 19th July through Friday 21st July

Babu Owino’s Lawyer Duncan Okatchi

Babu Owino’s lawyer Duncan Okatchi has accused police for denying them access to their client whose whereabouts remains unknown and incommunicado

“We have been prevented from seeing him. The police officers are even trying to move him clandestinely. They refused to tell us why they have arrested him and did not inform my client why they were arresting him at the point of arrest,” Okatchi said

He condemned police actions adding that every arrested person has a right of legal representation 

It’s not clear if Babu Owino who was arrested at JKIA during the night on arrival from Mombasa will be presented to court on Wednesday 19th July as per the constitution or not 

On the other hand, youth activist Calvin Okoth alias Gaucho have also been arrested by anti riot police and taken to undisclosed location

Gaucho has been very fierce on Kenya Kwanza Administration accusing the government of neglecting common mwananchi and unfulfiling the much publicised promises to kenyans

“I want to tell President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, the day when Raila Amollo Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka will be slightly injured either alighting from their vehicles, that is the day you will apply your first break in Uganda,” Gaucho was captured by camera roaring on Monday
