Malonza Joins Kitui Leaders in Colourful Dowry Ceremony at Kyoani

KITUI, Kenya — Former Cabinet Secretary Hon. Peninah Malonza joined Kitui leaders, families, elders and residents of Kyoani, Ikutha Ward, Kitui South Constituency, for a colourful traditional dowry ceremony celebrating the union of Catherine and Ronald Ngala.


The ceremony brought together families and members of the community in a celebration that highlighted the importance of culture, unity and family values among the Kamba people.


Malonza, who attended and supported the ceremony, joined Kitui Governor Dr Julius Malombe, Kitui South MP Dr Rachael Nyamai and Kitui Woman Representative Dr Irene Kasalu, among other leaders, in witnessing the traditional celebrations and offering their best wishes to the newly united families.


The former Cabinet Secretary emphasized the importance of preserving African culture and traditions, saying ceremonies such as dowry celebrations provide an opportunity for families and communities to come together while passing cultural values from one generation to another.


She noted that marriage is not only a union between two individuals but also brings together families, relatives and communities.


The ceremony was marked by traditional songs, dances, ululations and messages of wisdom from elders, who blessed the couple and urged them to build their marriage on love, respect, understanding and faith.


Dr Nyamai, who hosted the celebrations in her Kitui South constituency, congratulated the two families for embracing their cultural heritage and maintaining traditions that continue to unite communities.


She said cultural ceremonies remain important even as society undergoes rapid changes, noting that young people should understand and appreciate their heritage.


Governor Malombe and Woman Representative Kasalu also joined other leaders in celebrating with the families and interacting with residents during the colourful event.


The gathering provided an opportunity for local leaders to engage with residents and share in an important social occasion that brought together people from different generations.


The dowry ceremony for Catherine and Ronald Ngala underscored the enduring role of culture and family values in strengthening community bonds and preserving the identity of the Kamba people.


Malonza’s presence at the event further highlighted the importance of leaders supporting and participating in cultural and family occasions that bring communities together.
