Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje takes over from Sabina Chege as National Assembly Deputy Minority Leader
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party has replaced embattled nominated MP Sabina Chege as National Assembly Deputy Minority Leader with Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje
Speaking to parliamentary journalists on Tuesday 30th May, National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi announved that the decision was met after the party de-whipped MP Chege from the position on grounds that she is advancing interests to the ruling party
The Ugunya legislator added that the decision is in furtherance of a Jubilee Party National Delegates Conference (NDC) where MP Chege was expunged from the party’s leadership
“Azimio has today settled on Hon. Mark Mwenje as the Deputy Minority Whip of National Assembly. He will be taking up the position which was left vacant upon the removal of Hon. Sabina Chege about a month ago.
We recognize him as a committed, consistent, energetic, and youthful fighter who has shown the will to stand up for the people and fight for the party. We have no doubt he will prove equal to the task,’’ Wandayi said.
Wandayi further stated that they want the decision to be enforced by the Office of Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) Anne Nderitu to bolster the party’s representation in the National Assembly
MP Chege’s ejection from the position is however pending clearance from the Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula who had declined to okay her removal, urging the coalition to first put their house in order
