Kilifi, Kenya: Majid Al Futtaim has expanded its retail footprint in Kenya with the opening of a new Carrefour store in Kilifi, marking the supermarket chain’s 36th outlet in the country and its sixth branch outside Nairobi.

The new outlet, occupying approximately 1,500 square metres of retail space, offers customers a broad range of products including groceries, fresh food, electronics, home appliances and household essentials.

The expansion is expected to improve access to quality products at competitive prices for residents of Kilifi and the wider coastal region.

The investment forms part of Majid Al Futtaim’s strategy to extend modern retail services beyond major urban centres, bringing shopping facilities closer to underserved communities while promoting inclusive economic growth.

The company said expanding into counties such as Kilifi is intended to bridge the gap between consumers and affordable, high-quality products while creating a convenient shopping experience for local residents.

Beyond serving consumers, the new Carrefour outlet is also expected to strengthen local supply chains by providing market opportunities for farmers, manufacturers and other suppliers.

The retail sector plays a key role in linking producers to consumers, supporting job creation and contributing to regional economic development.

With the latest opening, Majid Al Futtaim now operates 30 Carrefour stores in Nairobi and six others across different parts of the country, reflecting its continued investment in Kenya’s growing retail sector.

The expansion comes as organised retail continues to gain momentum in Kenya, driven by increasing consumer demand, urbanisation and investments aimed at improving access to modern shopping experiences in counties beyond the capital.
