- Kalonzo had ditched Azimio coalition and declared independent presidential candidature

- Additionally, Kalonzo demanded Wiper party to be allocated at least five cabinet positions which he’s won the bargaining
Wiper Democratic Movement Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka secured five slots of cabinet positions should the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition win the presidency
In a virtual meeting that lasted about one hour attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Azimio’s presidential candidate Raila Odinga, on Monday 30th May, the duo agreed to bow to Kalonzo’s demands before he returns to the coalition
Details have emerged that Wiper party will secure cabinet secretaries in the ministry of energy, tourism, water, health and foreign affairs after they (Uhuru and Raila) denied him the ministry of infrastructure which he was also pushing for in the next government
1. Ministry of Tourism
Ministry of Tourism is one of the major foreign exchange earners in Kenya.
The ministry runs 14 semi autonomous government agencies (sagas)
These include Kenya Tourism Regulatory Authority, Kenya Wildlife Service, Kenya Cultural Centre, Kenya Wildlife Research and Training Institute, Kenya Tourism Finance Corporation and Kenya Utalii College.
Others are The Kenya Tourism Fund, Kenya Tourism Research Institute and Monitoring Mechanism, Kenya Tourism Protection Service, Kenya Tourism Board, Kenyatta International Conventional Centre and Bomas of Kenya.
2. Ministry of Water, Sewerage and Sanitation
The water ministry is another docket Kalonzo wants to be allocated to his party. The Ministry of Water was previously under the Ministry of Environment Water and Natural Resources before it was split by President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2015.
Some of its objectives are accelerating the implementation of water sector reforms and improving the sustainable management of water resources
Ministry runs multi-billion projects with dams gobbling a bigger share. Under the Jubilee administration, the ministry was dogged by corruption allegations that saw former Treasury CS Henry Rotich fired from his job.
It manages Water Regulatory Management Authority (Warma), Tana Athi, Kerio Valley Development Authority, Lake Basin Development Authority and Ewaso Nyiro South Development Authority
3. Ministry of Energy
Ministry of Energy manages the energy sector in Kenya. It is one of the lucrative ministries as the Cabinet Secretary in charge oversees several parastatals including Kenya Power, Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen), Geothermal Development Company (GDC), Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC).
That department is currently headed by Monica Juma who would exit office after the end of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s
4. Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA)
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has the primary responsibility to advise on, facilitate the execution of, and steer the foreign policy of Kenya on behalf of the President
Foreign policy, general objectives that guide the activities and relationships of one state in its interactions with other states.
The ministry is incharge of processing the recruitments and appointments of high commissioners who are heads of a representative sent-country in a foreign country, A Chargee d’affairs, second counsel, envoys, and internuncios
A Chargee D’Affaires (CDA)- is a diplomat who heads an embassy in the absence of the ambassador. Such a role is usually created when two countries do not have full diplomatic relations
5. Ministry of Health
The Ministry of Health is another powerful department that Kalonzo has bargained for. In the 2021/2022 budget, the health sector was allocated KSh 121.09 billion
Ministry has over the last two years been managing the COVID-19 pandemic which has infected over 325,000 people resulting in more than 5,600 deaths.

The Wiper boss will remain in a position he was offered by Raila Odinga as Chief Cabinet Secretary in the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition government as he shares the other five positions to his party members
Apart from cabinet ministerial positions, Wiper party will also secure ambassadorial positions, higher commissioners, independent institutions’s commissioners, parastatals heads and board directors
