Gatundu South MP Gabriel Kagombe has dramatically pulled down President William Ruto’s official portrait from his office after cutting ties with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and opting to align himself with the opposition.
Kagombe removed the portrait from its position in his office and discarded it before proceeding to address journalists, in a move that underlined his latest political shift.
The dramatic gesture came shortly after the legislator announced his decision to sever links with UDA, signalling a new political direction ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The Gatundu South lawmaker then engaged the press, where he is expected to explain his decision and outline his next political move.
Kagombe’s actions are likely to fuel fresh political debate in the Mt Kenya region, which has increasingly become a key battleground as political parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
The MP’s departure from UDA comes at a time when political realignments are gathering pace, with leaders across the country reassessing their alliances and exploring new partnerships ahead of the next polls.
