Addressing the media at KICC Building, Mwaura stated that the government is at the forefront in creating more jobs as it has entered into agreements for labour exchange with several foreign entities
This, for instance, included the recently advertised 2,500 positions for nurses to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Additionally, Dr Mwaura revealed that the government has created over 200,000 opportunities in the informal sector, with increased saving culture recorded amongst Kenyans under the National Social Security Fund kitty by upto Kshs6.5 billion
He sought Salaries and Remuneration Commission to effect the changes whicj will see employed persons with disabilities receive a hardship pay rise of up to Kshs 20,000
Implementation of Social Health Insurance Fund Scheme
Mwaura stated that government is going to fully implement the proposed Social Health Insurance Bill, 2023 after the courts suspended orders barring it’s implementation
The scheme is one of President William Ruto’s health agenda to see all kenyans with different chronic diseases be treated under the Universal Health Coverage [UHC] program
He further stated that the monthly contribution is set to ne lowered to Ksh 300 up from Ksh500 with the new health bill will mainly focus on government hospital unlike the previous NHIF policy which saw both private and government hospitals receive funds from the NHIF coffers
He said the current delays in disbursement of funds meant for the community health promoters as well Inua Jamii program which has witnessed immense increase by over 700,000 of new beneficiaries are as a result of government experiencing liquidity as it tries to reduce national debt
In the programme, beneficiaries who are elderly have been receiving Ksh 4000 monthly as well as Community Health Promoters who are receiving Ksh 10,000 as a monthly stipend
“More than 700,000 individuals have registered under Inua Jamii Program,” he disclosed
As a from of Government continued efforts to invest in healthcare, Mwaura stated that all Community Health Promoters have smart phones to ensure capturing of critical details and any form of illnes with the Linda Mama Programme
Under the programme, Kenya’s population grew by over Ksh 1 Million newborns annually as the government grapples with ensuring CHP receive their agreed 10,000 shillings stipend shared between National and County Governments
With the recent flash floods downpour which demonstratef drainage system failures around the city and the country, the Spokesperson insisted that government has increased by 5 percentum sewerage drainage, especially in the Urban centres to improve healthcare
