The Controversy following the arrest and arraignment in court of the Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakango has deepened with Members of Parliament allied to President William Ruto from the Gusii region coming out to defend him and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua against being involved.

National Assembly Majority Whip Silvanus Osoro who led the team that addressed Journalists in Parliament buildings on Wednesday 6th December, accused forces within and outside the government of being behind the woes faced by Dr Nyakango exonerating both President and Deputy President from blame.

Osoro said that they had engaged both the President and Deputy President who have said that they are not involved at all in Dr Nyakango arrest with the MPs accusing a few people who are hellbent on ensuring that certain communities do not have senior positions in government.

“We are soon going to name some of these individuals who are out to sabotage the President by wanting to portray him as being against certain communities, we are also calling on the Ethics and Anti Corruption not to accept being used to settle political scores,” said Osoro.

Kitutu Chache North MP Japheth Nyakundi wondered why the accusations that are being made against Nyakango are coming up almost seven years later yet nobody brought any petition against the Controller of Budget when she was being vetted to assume the office which has security of tenure.

Nyakundi who is the UDA National Treasurer wondered why some people waited for the President to travel outside the country before they effected some unpopular schemes that were aimed to portray the government badly and that they will not allow anyone to taint the image of the President.

North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko said that they are going to defend Dr Nyakango by ensuring that she has a battery of Advocates to represent her in court since they believed that she was victimised by some individuals who want to have a person allied to them holding the influential position.

“ We want to tell Kenyans that the President who is our party leader is not involved in this, that is why we are going to defend Dr Nyakango since she has proven to be a government officer who was out to perform her duties as per the constitution of Kenya,” said Nyamoko.
