Sweden and European Union (EU) roll out Sh5.7bn of donation to Kenya for agricultural support in the 47 counties.
The food security program of Sh5.692 billion which is jointly supported by the Kenyan government, the European Union, and SIDA of Sweden would benefit all 47 counties.
The Agriculture Sector Development Support Programme (ASDSP) was designed by the Ministry of Agriculture and the 47 county governments to address food security, nutrition, and manufacturing
Under the programme, each county is set to identify three priority areas for value addition.
Speaking during a meeting with the Swedish ambassador to Kenya Caroline Vicini, Nakuru governor Susan Kihika pointed out that agriculture was the core of the country’s policies and strategies towards food security and value addition
Nakuru County has picked pyrethrum, fishing, and milk production
She confirmed that Nakuru has 134 value chain organizations under the programme with 56 groups in milk production, 52 in pyrethrum, and 26 in fish farming.
A total of 7, 547 households are participating in the programme across the county, the governor said.
“Out of the 134 groups highlighted in the ASDSP progress report, I am happy to report that we have 23 well-organized co-operatives —14 in the cow milk value chain, pyrethrum (4), and fish (5),” said Kihika.
