Men, are highly visual beings.

“When they stumble on pictures of their naked intimate partners, they feel good.”

This visual component of sexual pleasure summarizes how to understand why many people send nudes.

To many , sharing nude photos is a form of sexual self-expression, brand influencing and a way to feel desirable.

This aligns with evolutionary psychology theories positing that visual stimuli play a more significant role in male sexual arousal compared to females.

Significantly, the main pranks for the widespread practice among men and women includes :-

{a} responding to pressure or coercion;

{b} sexual experimentation and exploration;

{c} securing attention or affirmation in the attention economy ;

{d} maintaining intimacy in the porous long-distance relationships and to fulfill the intimacy gap created by distance; and

{e} flirtation and sexual attraction.

Growing up in a digital world, Gen Z and Millennials fancy nude sharing as a new normal and part of modern dating and relationships.

Nude sharing has a dark underbelly-Revenge Porn; the non-consensual sharing of intimate images that is raising serious concerns at the global showpieces.

The digital nature of nude pictures has introduced significant privacy risks.

Many jurisdictions in the World have laws against revenge porn and non-consensual sharing of intimate images.

Section 37 of the Kenya’s Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act { No. 5 of 2018}, criminalizes the act of wrongful distribution of obscene or intimate images of another person, with a penal sanction for those held liable, to a conviction of a fine not exceeding 200K or imprisonment for a term not exceeding two {2} years, or to both.

Undeniably, if one sends nude pictures, third party security is not guaranteed.

In the digital age, smartphones have easily presented intimate connections through screens making the practice prevalent.

Intimacy and sex are about pleasure and many can now get pleasure by feeling, hearing, seeing and touching given the thin line between love and hate.

That vulnerability can be betrayed thus introducing an element of risk that contributes to the complex emotions surrounding the practice.

The practice has become a necessity, now somewhere between the first and second levels of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.

The first and last levels of the hierarchy are correct, but the ones in between can be swapped, one for another, and can even be skipped to reach higher levels.

Maslow’s hierarchy of needs posit that once humans have satisfied their ego and obtained self-esteem, their ultimate need is that of self- actualization.

Humans can be categorized into a series of hierarchical levels, including belongingness and love needs, safety needs, esteem needs, physiological needs and self-actualization needs.

The Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory is hinged on a pyramid of the needs that motivate people for relative prepotency. This means that lower needs in the hierarchy must be substantially gratified before higher needs become motivators.

Unmet needs occupy the mind, preventing the pursuit of needs higher in the pyramid.

This slightly clunky phrase simply means that humans want to feel that they are fulfilling their potential and making the most of their abilities.

Many women are attracted to men who don’t ask for nudes and see it as a different kind of respect and a sign of mutual trust.

CAUTION: Once an image is sent, the sender loses control over its distribution.
