Former Cabinet Secretary and Kitui County gubernatorial aspirant Hon. Peninah Malonza has urged former Kitui Governor Hon. Charity Ngilu to uphold respect, dignity and political maturity when interacting with leaders across the political divide.
Hon. Malonza’s remarks followed an incident at a recent fundraising drive involving former Governor Ngilu and UDA-nominated MCAs Hon. Deborah and Hon. Kavilisi.
During the fundraiser, Hon. Ngilu contributed Kshs. 10,000 towards the initiative, while Hon. Deborah and Hon. Kavilisi each contributed Kshs. 20,000. The contributions reportedly became a point of tension, with Ngilu subsequently engaging the two UDA-nominated MCAs and asking them to leave the fundraising event.
Hon. Malonza called for restraint and respect, noting that differences in political standing or the amount contributed to a fundraiser should never become a reason for humiliating, intimidating or disrespecting fellow leaders.
She urged Hon. Ngilu, as a former Governor and a senior political figure in Kitui, to lead by example and demonstrate the qualities expected of an elder in the political community.
“Those of us who have held leadership positions must always remember that people look up to us. We should be role models and demonstrate respect, humility and maturity, even when circumstances do not go our way,” Hon. Malonza said.
She further emphasized that fundraising events are community occasions meant to bring people together in support of development initiatives and should not become platforms for political confrontation or personal rivalry.

Hon. Malonza also defended the dignity of UDA-nominated MCAs, stressing that their political affiliation and position deserve recognition and respect. She urged all political leaders to engage one another with civility, regardless of party differences.
According to Hon. Malonza, Kitui needs leaders who can disagree without becoming enemies and compete politically without destroying the bonds that hold communities together.
She called upon leaders across the county to embrace dialogue, tolerance and peaceful coexistence, saying that political differences should never be allowed to interfere with development or community unity.

Her message was particularly directed at political leaders seeking to influence the county’s future, reminding them that their conduct today will shape how the public remembers their leadership tomorrow.
