Police Arrests Ida Odinga’s Bodyguard Suspected Killer

Police have arrested a man suspected to have fatally shot Ida Odinga’a bodyguard Barack Oduor Onyango alias Jaraha on Friday 14th October at Victoria Gardens Estate in Kisumu

Collins Okundi, who has been on the run since the Friday, October October 14, shooting, was arrested in Eldoret.

Uasin Gishu Police boss Ayub Gitonga said the suspect surrendered at an Eldoret police station on the afternoon of Sunday, October 16, before being placed in lawful custody.

Gitonga said the suspect, who was a manager of Club Signature Level 4 in Kisumu, will be arraigned on Monday, October 17, to answer murder charge

“I can confirm that our officers have arrested the suspect in the shooting that took place in Kisumu,” said Gitonga

A Jericho pistol, one magazine and seven rounds of ammunition were recovered from him.

Oduor shot dead in Kisumu

Oduor, a trained police officer, was shot dead on Friday at around 3am, in the Mamboleo area in Kisumu.

In the unfortunate occurrence, Oduor, alias Jaraha had left Dondez Bar & Restaurant accompanied by Donar Kajwang and a lady identified as Marion.

Upon reaching Victoria Gardens Estate, Okundi suddenly appeared and a scuffle ensued. In the process, Okundi disarmed Oduor and fatally shot him twice in the head and leg.

On the other hand, Kajwang was shot in the leg and was rushed to Aga Khan Hospital Kisumu.

Oduor died on the spot.

His body was taken to a local mortuary. The condition of Marion is not yet clear.

The suspect, Okundi, immediately left with the officer’s firearm before his arrest on Sunday.

Ida Odinga speaks

Ida Odinga, the wife of former presidential candidate Raila Odinga, spoke for the first time about the shooting of her personal bodyguard Oduor.

Breaking her silence over the incident, Ida condoled with the family of her bodyguard and urged young people to avoid drug abuse.

“I am sending my condolences to the families of Barack, who hails from Bondo. It is unfortunate that my personal bodyguard was shot dead. Young people must restrain themselves and avoid drugs,” said Mrs Odinga.

She was speaking on Saturday, October 15, during the funeral of Bondo parliamentary aspirant Andiwo Mwai’s mother at Nyamira village in Bondo, Siaya County.
