Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has now filed a suit seeking to recover unexplained assets worth Sh 1.9 billion owned by former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu alias Baba Yao
In a suit seen by safinews.co.ke on Friday 27th, EACC wants the court to restrain baba yao from selling or using the marked unevaluated assets saying doesn’t commensurate to the former governor’s known sources of income
The anti-graft body claims this is one of the many cases among a number of other governors across the country said to have embezzled public funds while in the office
The body justified that Waititu was impeached by the senate for owning assets and properties not commensurate to the years he has served in public office
Waititu had served as Kabete MP from 2015 to 2017 after the cruel murder of George Muchai and was elected as Kiambu governor in 2017 after ousting William Kabogo where he served until 2020
According to the report, waititu abused his office of trust as a state officer by engaging in fraudulent and fictitious procurements where he concealed his identity in awarding tenders from county government related to him and his relatives
Of the said sum, EACC says Waititu pocketed Sh 928 Million, his wife Susan Wangari Waititu took Sh 282 million whereas his Saika Two Estate Development limited, a company associated to him and his daughter was paid Sh 906 Million
Waititu’s Bievenue Delta Hotel was paid 206 and Bins Management Services Ltd received Sh 62 million
The EACC now says in order for waititu to hide the money he bought five high end vehicles including two land cruisers valued at Sh 4 Million each
A double cabin cost at Sh 4 Million, toyota vits and a probox costing at Sh 600,000 each
The commission wants some of properties be recovered including Jamii Bora Building and Delta Hotel seated at Nairobi’s CBD valued at Sh 200 Million and Sh 308 million respectively
The Sh 110 million Biashara shopping mall in Nairobi and two houses in Runda, one valued at Sh 10 million while another at shilling 96 million
The EACC now claims Waititu traded directly to the county executive of Kiambu with companies directly and indirectly owned by his wife and his daughter
Suwanga limited, Connex Logistics limited, Modiba Management Services Ltd
