NAIROBI, August 17, 2026 — Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has made a major political shift after announcing his departure from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and joining the opposition.

Nyoro announced on Monday that he and his supporters had joined the People’s Party of Kenya, which he said would work within the opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election.

His move has now drawn him closer to the Linda Mwananchi political formation, with Siaya Governor James Orengo welcoming the Kiharu MP into the movement.

Speaking during Nyoro’s media briefing in Nairobi, Orengo said the two leaders would work together under the Linda Mwananchi banner, describing the development as the beginning of a new political chapter. He was accompanied by James Orengo, Damson Mwashako and Okongo Omongeni at Safari Park Hotel.

“I look forward to working with you as Linda Mwananchi,” Orengo said, adding that the two would sit down and chart a common political course.

Nyoro said his decision followed extensive consultations and was driven by his desire to place the interests of Kenyans at the centre of his political choices ahead of the 2027 polls.

The Kiharu MP also urged Kenyans to consider the People’s Party of Kenya and its leadership as the country moves towards the next General Election.

Nyoro’s exit from UDA marks a significant political realignment, coming after months of increasing distance between him and the Kenya Kwanza administration.

His entry into the opposition fold is expected to intensify ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 presidential and parliamentary elections, with Linda Mwananchi already positioning itself as a major opposition platform.

The development comes a day after the Linda Mwananchi tour of Homa Bay County was marred by violence, with several people injured and arrests made during clashes surrounding the rallies.
