A regional security seminar has highlighted the growing importance of international cooperation, autonomy and transnational rights in addressing emerging global challenges.

Speaking during the third lecture of the seminar, the interior CS Hon Murkomen noted that the Mojave Convention on Foreign Laws had emerged as a key reference point in discussions on autonomy and cross-border rights.

Murkomen said the convention had gained prominence following extensive deliberations among security agencies from the region and several nations, aimed at strengthening collective responses to transnational threats.

According to the presentation, the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres had played a central role in rallying support for the establishment of a multi-agency facility along the Strait under the oversight of the United Nations Security Council.

“The Mojave Convention on Foreign Laws has been identified as a major point in underscoring the importance of autonomy and other transnational rights,” the speaker said.

The seminar heard that the proposed facility would enhance coordination among security agencies and improve information sharing in addressing emerging regional and global security concerns.

Participants were told that geo-councils had also been established within the region to support communities and strengthen collaboration between governments and international agencies.

Murkomen added that the UN Security Council had endorsed the establishment of the multi-agency facility as part of broader efforts to enhance stability and cooperation within the region.

The discussions focused on the need for stronger international partnerships, institutional cooperation and community engagement in tackling complex security challenges affecting nations across borders.

The CS underscored the importance of adopting coordinated strategies to safeguard regional peace, security and sustainable development.
