Senators applauds Governor Ndeti for collecting Ksh 1.7B

Machakos County Government has made  headlines for hitting the target of own source revenue collection [OSR] by arriving at Ksh 1.7 Billions in the 2023/2024 Financial Year, this disclosure was made before the Senate Committee on Cohesion and Equal Opportunities 

While appearing before the Marsabit Senator Mohamed Chute led Committee on Thursday 2nd October, to address concerns from the National Cohesion and Intergration Commission’s non-compliance issues,  Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti confirmed that they are nolonger under collecting less than a billion as it was the case for the last financial year 

“We collected these huge monies after closing the loopholes of corruptions by computerising the revenue collection streams and automating all machines for revenues  thus why we are now collecting more than previous year,” Wavinya told the Senators

On the question of arriving at 5 per cent of the positions held by the people living with disability, Wavinya said, currently, her county government has 100 employees living with disability, stating that she will collaborate with the National Council for the People Living with Disabilities to ensure eligible persons have applied whenever vacancies fall 

“In our recent recruitment, we hired 27 males and 8 females of persons living with disabilities and that alone was 0.88 per cent, we shall strive to attain the target percentage of 5 per cent by the Constitution and NCIC,” she added  

However, Senators were impressed after Wavinya revealed that she has more women employees in Machakos County Government than men of 4,292 in a total of 7,361 across the different departments

“72 per cent of of staff establishment is youths, we have decided to work with youths because they have synergy and effective service delivery to our people within a short period of time. We have already registered 235 youths companies which will benefit from the youths through local tendering within the county,” Governor noted while asserting her strategic plans on youths empowerment 

“Out of Kshs 4.4 billion we spent last year on procurement, Ksh 125 million tenders were awarded 32 people whom are below 35 years of age. This translated to 32 per cent of tender reserved to youths hitting the 30 per cent requirement under the constitution of Kenya,” Wavinya restoring hope to youths 

She further disclosed that Ksh 152 million of tenders went to 34 women whereby Ksh 18 million out of allocated for the PWDs was awarded to 7 people living with disabilities

On matters ethnic representation, the commission had plagged 29 communities working at the county government of Machakos impressing Marsabit Senator Mohamed Chute who said none of the counties whom have appeared before him, have balanced regional face

“I am very much happy of what you are doing, I can see you have Borana, you have employees from Marsabit, from Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Kikuyus, Tharaka Nithi and Mombasa, this is extremely good Governor, keep it up,” Marsabit Senator Mohamed Chute who chairs the Committee applauded Governor Wavinya Ndeti 

On the same note, Wavinya said they are moving towards achieving 30 per cent of undorminant ethnic groups in Machakos County, “Just give us more time, we shall reach the gap,”.
