The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has donated a 40 tonnes consignment of food aid to support families affected by the ongoing countrywide floods.

The consignment was received by the Cabinet Secretary for East African Community, ASALs and Regional Development Peninah Malonza from the UAE Ambassador to Kenya Dr Salim Ahmed Al-Naqbi at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

She thanked the UAE government for its humanitarian support to Kenya at a critical time when floods occasioned by heavy rains were sweeping across the country.

CS Malonza said the food aid was a major boost to Government efforts to support victims of the floods, noting it would go straight to the needy and not to the stores.

The Ambassador said UAE stood in solidarity with Kenya during the challenging time and would continue to collaborate with the government to provide timely assistance to those in need.

UAE dispatched two aircrafts loaded with essential relief supplies to be distributed in the affected areas.

The consignment which was delivered in two aircrafts straight from UAE contains flour, rice, pasta, chick peas, salt, cooking oil, powder milk, dates, tea, tuna fish and sugar among other things.
