At least 500 Neno Sacco drivers have undergone specialized training in a bold effort to curb rising cases of road carnage on Kenyan roads.

The sensitization program, held at the Wakagoto Foundation in Embu Town, focused on road safety, mental health wellness, safe driving tactics, customer care, and compliance. Organizers say the initiative is designed not only to safeguard passengers and other road users but also to improve the overall well-being of drivers.

Neno Sacco Chairman Joseph Nyaga Ireri, popularly known as Muungwana, said the training was a critical step in addressing key challenges drivers face on duty.
“Mental health has become a hidden contributor to road accidents. By equipping our drivers with the right tools to manage stress and remain disciplined, we are ensuring they stay alert and responsible while on the road,” Nyaga said.

He further revealed that the Sacco intends to extend similar programs to boda boda operators, a sector that has increasingly been linked to rising crash statistics.
“We cannot ignore boda bodas. They form a huge part of our transport system, and we shall sensitize them on how to reduce accidents and enhance road safety,” he added.

Meru County Traffic Officer, (CTO) Anthony Nyongesa, praised Neno Sacco drivers for their discipline, urging other public service vehicle operators to emulate their example.
“We have observed how Neno Sacco drivers conduct themselves on the road and in their interactions with passengers. Their professionalism is commendable and should be replicated across the country,” Nyongesa said.

Embu County Chaplain, Reverend Njagi Wa Tabitha, also urged drivers to remain faithful to their calling.
“Be faithful to your jobs, your employers, your passengers, and your families. Faithfulness brings blessings, both in your work and in life,” Wa Tabitha told the drivers.

With the program highlighting mental health, safe driving, and customer service, Neno Sacco hopes its drivers will set the standard in reducing road accidents and saving lives across Kenya.
