Senate Roads and Transport committee unanimously demands Government complete stoppage of Adani Group from taking over JKIA
However, Chirchir defended government’s plan to attract foreign investors claiming that will take 50 years to upgrade JKIA with our own source revenue
The claims were quashed by majority of Senators since the balance sheet needed is only Kshs 136B which could be raised in fund drive
The Senate Roads and Transport Committee has urged Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir to cancel the proposed upgrade of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Adani Group Oompany
While expressing their dissatisfaction, Senators Richard Onyonka [Kisii] unearthed that the feasibility test, environmental impact assessment were done within 30 days contrary to public procurement and public private partnership processes
Onyonka disclosed a voluminous document detailing how the meeting was conducted in Dubai by the Adani agent, Nairobi West Hospital owner who is allegedly reported in Social Health Insurance Fund where money is reported to have exchanged in hands between the former Roads CS Kipchumba Murkomen and the Adani Group agents.
“Why would Kenya risk Kshs over Kshs 1.2 trillion the value of JKIA because of an investment of only Kshs Kshs 136 billion, this company is a Kabal and will come to haunt Kenyans if we give them powers to take over our airport, we can make harambee to raise the balance sheet,” Kisii Senator Dr Richard Onyonka termed the process shoddy
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargey said former Roads and Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen had a lot of influence to award the Adani Group which is shrouded by corrupt individuals and fraudsters
“This country will love you if you cancel this deal because your predecessor had an interest with it. The signs are on the wall and we can see it’s pure conmaship, manipulation, greedy, corruption, and lethargy of the people who want to perpetuate illegality by awarding this company to take over our airport,” Cherargey charged

Even when CS Chirchir attempted to defend the government’s plan to source for a foreign investor to help in the renovation of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Senators were charged and told him to cleanse himself as he’s been in the past.
“We know you in the past, you are one of the best CS in the side of government have never had doubts, please stop this Adani away JKIA because you will be blamed,” Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna expressed
Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina posed hard questions to Chirchir demanding to know why only Adani Group which is declared fraudster in their own country in detriment to other interested international companies that have got reach history in building airports
According to Chirchir, Kenya’s major impediment towards modernising the facility to enhance its efficiency and capacity is attributed to financial constraints.
The current facility which, he stated, has been in existence for over 30 years needs to be modernised to keep pace with the increasing number of flights and cargo and maintain its position in the region.
Chirchir maintained that the 30 days period can be quashed over urgency of the project, however assuring the senators that consensional agreement had not been signed
“No compensation, we shall not incur any financial implications because we have not signed any deal, it’s just a proposal, we are still in negotiations table; matters to do with legal implications, financial, environmental impacts, labour relations and other fundamental factors,” Chirchir told the senators who breathed a sigh of breathe
He further disclosed that Kenyan team comprising of technical and experts have already been dispatched to India and Europe to find out how many airports has the Adani Group has upgraded and by what standards as well as getting the views from stakeholders
He however, admitted government’s failure to disclose nitty gritty information about the proposed expansion of JKIA by Adani which has blatantly been rejected by every mindful Kenyans
