Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition’s Presidential Candidate Raila Odinga has demanded presidential debate slated on Tuesday 26th July, 2022 to include corruption and ethics should they wish him to attend
This was arrived after the Kenya Kwanza Alliance’s Presidential Candidate William Ruto sought an exclusion of governance, corruption, leadership and integrity issues from the aforementioned debate
Raila, through the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition’s Spokesperson, Lawyer Prof Makau Mutua, made it unequivocally that, their candidate (Raila Odinga) will not attend the debate if they won’t focus on basic intents from national perspective
In a press release issued on Sunday, July 24, Mutua stated that the UDA candidate William Ruto’s demands to have specific concerns be excluded went against the intents of the national importance
“Our main opponent demanded that the debate shouldn’t focus on corruption, ethics and governance. These are issues at the core of the Azimio campaign; any debate devoid of these questions will be an insult to the intelligence of Kenyans,” Mutua stated.
Mutua, categorically, made it clear that should Raila Odinga participate in such debate, would only be campaigning for the Kenya Kwanza candidate.
“It would be a colossal mistake to reward such a person with a national debate. We will not assist his failing campaign; he can explain himself and his poor record to voters without our help.
We shall take part in a televised town hall at Jericho Social Hall in Nairobi’s Eastlands with ordinary Kenyans to offer our solutions to the challenges facing the country and common people,” the statement read in part.
Already, Roots Party Presidential candidate Prof Wajakoyah and Agano Party Counterpart David Waihiga Mwaure have since indicated they would not participate in the presidential debate if they are paired as second tier candidates
It shall be moderated by celebrated news anchor Yvonne Okwara from Citizen TV, Eric Latiff of KTN News, Smriti Vidyarthi NTV, Ken Mijungu KTN News and Joe Ageyo from NTV and is believed William Ruto’s Communications Director, other decorated Journalist Hussein Mohamed, has influenced topics to be tabled
