National Assembly Goes for Sine Die Recess Until General Election

The National Assembly will today Thursday 9th June, adjourn its sittings indefinitely to pave way for campaigns until seventy two hours to General Election on August 9th, 2022

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi will invite National Assembly Leader of Majority Amos Kimunya to table the motion of adjournment as he summarises some of bills enacted during the twelfth parliament

However, Members of Parliament can only return if called for a special sitting emanating from special issues, emergencies or something of national importance

The 12th Parliament was inaugurated on August 31st, 2017.

Jubilee Party led by President Uhuru Kenyatta had the most MPs, 140, while ODM party led by Raila Odinga was second with 62

Wiper Democratic Movement Party led by Kalonzo Musyoka is third with 19 Members of Parliament .

The twelfth parliament has had 13 Independent candidates as Members of Parliament in the 12th Parliament.

Their counterparts Senators will be breaking for sine die recess on next week, Thursday, 16th June, 2022

The senators are 67 in number having 47 elected each from the forty seven counties in the country

Twelve of them are nominated from the political parties representing marginalised regions, youths, women and people with disabilities

Some of nominated senators are Naomi Waqo from Marsabit County, Abshiro Soka from Isiolo County, Millicent Omanga representing women, Mercy Chebeni representing youths, Isaac Mwaura and Dr Gertrude Musureve representing people with disabilities

They also include Judith Pareno from Kajiado, Beth Mugo from Kiambu, Naomi Shiyonga from Kakamega, summing up to 20 delegated and nominated senators
