Treasury CS John Mbadi accused of disrespecting the senators for not appearing before the committee on finance to respond on budget policy statement

He, however, dismissed the taugh talking senators stating that his appearance was just inconsequential having shared the written responses

Senators have warned Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi to stop treating senators as village barazas where he can decide whether to appear or not.


This outburst came after the ministed snubbed the Sebate Committee on Finance on consideration on budget policy statements and medium term debt management strategies.


The legislators were charged at the CS after he kept them waiting on Tuesday without any explanation only to late send his responses

The committee unanimously resolved to reject the CS’s responses, insisting that he must appear before the committee.


Reading the riot, the Mandera County Senator Ali Roba who doubles up as the committee’s chairperson, said they will not tolerate errant ministers who snub senate committees on crucial government matters


He disclosed that the Senate, enjoyed a cordial relatiopship with Mbadi’s predecessor, Prof Njuguna Ndung’u, who honored invitations to appear before the committee on several times.


‘’We enjoyed a good working relationshop with Ndung’u who never failed to appear before us.I hope CS Mdadi has not carried with the mentality of National Assembly in the deliovery of his mandate as Cabinet Secretary.
We are not a baraza where he can opt not to appear and instead send a responses,’ Mr Roba charged.


Kakamega Senator Boni Khalalwe said the committee will not entertain rogue ministers even if they are in a broad-based government but stick to ensuring the government delivers.

“I hope Mbadi is not having what Americans call feel-good effect. We will help you remember that when discharging our mandate. We are blind to broad based government intrigues


Reached for comment, CS Mbadi said that he despite not appearing before the commitee, he shared his presentations with the committee urging them to adopt

”I dont think failure to appear before the commitee will have any effect on the report, I shared my presentation which can enrich their final report,’ Mbadi said
