Co-Principal of the People’s Loyal Coalition and Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has condemned the grabbing of a piece of land owned by Kenya Railways Retirees in between Integrity Centre and Orthodox Church at Valley Road, Nairobi

Speaking to the Press on Friday 14th March, joined by the retirees at Sarova Panafric Hotel, Kalonzo disclosed that the land that was compensated to railways retirees after the corporation failed to pay their pensions had been taken over by people who are believed close to President William Ruto

Kalonzo stated that retirees have already been chased away from their property, and it’s now manned by GSU officers while undergoing some renovations

”It has come to a shocking attention that a person high up in governement who has an arch of land grabbing is at it yet again, they have chased poor pensioners out of their property on valley road and the said property is now under police protection as ‘private’ developer is now developing it.

”I want to call upon William Ruto to come out open on the subject and hand back the subject matter to the poor retirees and leave public properties alone. This poor retireees are awaiting the completion of this land, there was an open tender and purchaser bought it at Sh400 million and paid Sh320 million, they are awaiting the balance of Sh80 million; all these monies went to retirees,” Kalonza blasted

The Wiper Boss stated that is dismayed by how some people who are close to the government continue violating human rights, revisiting yesterday’s accident where a presidential motorcade fatally killed a pedestrian while speeding off even without stopping

”You have also seen what has happened in the last two days, people being killed by presidential mortacade and nothing happening, people being snatched of their phones but police are not taking any action,” Kalonze reminiscent

Backing the statement, People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua claimed that those who have grabbed the land are either President William Ruto’s proxies, himself using shadow names or his family members

Karua stated that whenever President wants to grab a certain land, there must be GSU officers or state machinery who are send to chase real owners away

”We believe it is you or members of your family, and if it’s not you, please come out clean and tell us who is grabbing this land because you are the chairman of the National Security Council. Can you tell us whether you are using state machinery to grab public lands or not?” Karua asked, directing the head of state to respond.

The land under Reference Number 209/1064/ 1,2,3,4 and 5 Valley Road, Nairobi, was among the 23 properties that the corporation handed over to over eight thousand retirees in the year 2005/6 after they had failed to pay them their plum pensions for the years worked for the government

Mr, Amuma, who is one of the retirees, recapped that around 2005/6, Kenya Railways Management was unable to pay pension to pensioners after consultation and engagement to actuarial professionals and it was agreed that some properties would be transferred to pensioner’s scheme and at that time it was worth Sh 12.4 billion as at that time.

”So far we have sold 10 properties out of 23 and we are remaining to dispose of 11 properties, the problem is what you have heard that this property at Valley Road, is still under the custody of the Kenya Railways Corporation. Their role should be to safeguard the interest of the pensioners nothing more nothing less! The trustee Perpetual Succession Act is very clear once the property is transferred to trustees is irrevocable and that is period,” Mr Amuma described
