Kenyan renowned Musician Kevin Kioko alias Bahati says he was offered Ksh 50 million to drop out of the Mathare Parliamentary battle in favour of his opponent Lawyer Antony Aluoch.
Speaking on Radio Citizen on Wednesday 29th June, Bahati claimed that all of his opponents have been attempting to get him to resign from the race but unfortunately do not reside in Mathare and that they don’t understand the problems bedeviling his people.
“I was told I will be given a job. But I am not looking for a job, I am earning a living from my music,” he said.
People have come with offers they want to pay me to step down. They have offered me millions, up to Ksh.50 million. They know that when they get to office they will regain the money,” Bahati said.
The Azimio Coalition, which just declared Anthony Oluoch as their preferred candidate to run for the Mathare MP seat, is at a crossroads with Bahati at the time of these statements.
During a joint delegates meeting of the ODM and Jubilee on Monday, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said they will talk to Bahati about stepping down and being considered for a position in the Azimio government.
“We only have one candidate in Mathare and that is Anthony Oluoch, this young man called Bahati is my younger brother and we will talk. I will make sure that we find him another position within the Azimio government,” Sifuna made it clear.
But furious Bahati has gone wild telling them off including Gender Chief Administrative Secretary Racheal Shebesh to respect him as her son, and that she should not mental with the affairs of Mathare’s next member of parliament
“What’s paining me most is that someone like Shebesh can tell me openly that she don’t support youths, where is the place of youths in Azimio coalition?
Even you don’t like me please, am like your son and I know one or two of your children loves my work, let me liberate the many youths in Mathare yearning for my transformational leadership,” Bahati asserted
