Canadian based barrister Dr Miguna Miguna slams Kenya Kwanza Government for being unable to pay intern doctors fair stipends

The ongoing strike by doctors and other healthcare workers has opened a lid on systemic failures across the National and County Governments in dealing with workers across all other sectors.

The Kenya Medical Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has exposed that lid in that the medics strike is a welcome relief to all employed workers on the now staggered taxes and levies by the Keny Kwanza Government whose payslips would have been jolted by the affordable Housing and Social Health Insurance twin levies.

The death of comprehensive Health Insurance is mind blowing and points to systemic failure on the current Government.

Further, the medics strike has laid bare the fallacy of the government policy in exporting skilled labour in foreign capitals, an escapist strategy to run away from the government’s solemn responsibility to absorb thousands and thousands of unemployed graduates in all sectors to serve the public.

Failure to invest on decent work and workers despite the known investment benefits points at such underestimations on labour financing and failure by bureaucrats in the economic policy dialogue.

Elsewhere, controversial lawyer Dr Miguna Miguna slams the current regime for pushing intern doctors to accept stipends of Sh 70,000 per month since the economy has not yet been stabilized

“How can we as a country argue in good conscience, that a physician who got all As in High School, spent 5 years in Medical School, and is delivering babies, removing our tumours, and spending countless hours in emergency rooms, is worth only Sh 70,000 per month, while semi-illiterates in parliament earn Sh 1,500,000 per month including the millions they loot from CDF and excluding illicit deals?
