Former National Nurses Association of Kenya has termed Azimio la Umoja Coalition’s series of rallies as `political shenanigans’ about nothing tangible.

Speaking on Saturday 11th February, Mr Alfred Obengo, said it was rather pedestrian for Azimio leader Raila Odinga to declare the Ruto presidency illegitimate and illegal.

He added that Mr Odinga’s utterances that Kenyans should not recognise Mr Ruto’s presidency, as uncalled for, and a waste of time and energy

Raila has been calling the current administration as an `illegitimate government’ and that it was imposed by one ‘rogue’ electoral agency boss Mr Wafula Chebukati

But, according to Mr Obengo, President Ruto reign meets all the constitutional thresholds. It’s within the same law that upheld Ruto’s presidency that allows the opposition to hold political rallies.

“What the former Prime Minister should focus on is demanding the government to address the high cost of living, joblessness and other oppressing issues affecting Kenyans or offer an alternative strategy to address the same”. Mr Obengo opined

In his quest for justice, Mr Obengo’s remarks have always been much respected both national level, by professionals; especially in the medical field as well as a bit of political class

However, he admits, being Raila is very difficult in Kenya’s democratic space. Damn if he speaks, damn when he doesn’t. Whether in government or not, whether he supports the government or opposes it, he remains influential.

There are ongoing constitutional changes.
If all goes well as per Attorney General’s Justin Muturi’s proposal backed by President on tinkering Article 108 of the constitution to have the person who comes second in presidential polls become minority leader in the National Assembly and running mate assumes Minority Leader in the Senate

Therefore, it could see Mr Raila Odinga and Ms Martha Karua assume leadership of the minority side in parliament, replacing Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi as Minority Leader in the National Assembly and Karua succeeding Steward Madzayo at Senate

“It’s difficult to be Raila, If he plays his role as Opposition Chief, they say he’s sabotaging the government and if he supports the same government, they change the tune – he should go back to opposition,” Mr Obengo concluded.
