Kitui County CECM Agriculture urges youths to embrace on agriculture if they want to address unemployment
His docket will disburse loans meant to help small farmers upscale their farming model and market their produce
Youth in Kitui have been urged to embrace Agriculture to tackle unemployment and boost food production.
This was revealed by the CECM for Agriculture and Livestock Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele today when he led a cheque disbursement exercise to Community Driven Development Committees( CDDCs) affected by the 2019 desert locust invasion in Nguni-Kyala Moko village and Ngomeni-Mitamisyi of Mwingi Central and Mwingi North Sub counties.
The CECM noted that there are enormous untapped opportunities in the Agriculture sector which the youth can take advantage of for a living and improve their livelihoods.
He called on the youth to form groups and cooperatives saying it’s only through teamwork where they can be able to put their resources together for collective gains and be able to reap maximum benefits from Government’s and donors.
“Young people should be empowered to venture into agriculture, that way we will be able to curb unemployment and increase production” he said.
He affirmed Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s commitment to empower youth through training and capacity building to venture into agribusiness
With youth trainings on Climate Smart Agriculture, pest and disease control, harvesting techniques among others, the CECM noted that the county would be able to solve the youth unemployment menace and improve food security.
The exercise was also carried out in Kyuso, Mumoni and Tharaka areas of Mwingi North Sub County. CECM was accompanied by the Chief Officer for Livestock and Apiculture Jonathan Kyambi, MCA representatives, senior County Government Officers and opinion leaders from the areas.
