National Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Moses Wetang’ula has refuted allegations regarding the sale of Nzoia Sugar Mill, affirming the approval of Ksh1.7 billion by MPs through a Supplementary Budget to support the revival of the country’s struggling sugar sector.

Wetang’ula said that that the allocated funds would contribute significantly to President William Ruto’s ambitious program aimed at rejuvenating the ailing sugar industry.

Addressing concerns about Nzoia Sugar Factory’s future, Wetang’ula dismissed claims of a potential sale, stating that Ksh.300 million, part of the approved budget, would be disbursed to the miller located in Kanduyi constituency Bungoma County.

He assured the over seven million farmers and families that depend on the mill that Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi would visit the factory within two weeks to deliver the funds, challenging those spreading rumors.

Speaking on Friday during the funeral service of Antony Namisi Maloba in Mukhweya village Kabuchai constituency, Wetang’ula criticized MP Hon. Majimbo Kalasinga, accusing him of being manipulated by political detractors to propagate misinformation about the mill.

He urged Kalasinga to convey the truth to farmers and emphasized President Ruto’s commitment to preserving the factory.

Wetang’ula also condemned former Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, Former Tongaren MP Eseli Simiyu and former Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi, accusing them of exploiting the mill’s challenges for political gain.

“I want to ask these leaders to stop retrogressive politics on our mill, if they think that they will use this mill to resestate their dwindling political careers they will be in for a rude shock,” he said.

Wetang’ula further expressed satisfaction that Nzoia Sugar Factory had resumed crushing activities and farmers were promptly compensated for delivered cane.

Wetang’ula also assured farmers that he will be accompanying the agriculture CS Hon. Mithika Linturi during the factory visit to deliver funds and address farmers on recovery plans.

The Speaker affirmed the National Assembly’s dedication to supporting the revival of ailing sugar factories, pledging that allocated funds would be utilized as intended.

The Speaker who was accompanied by five MPs, including Bungoma Senator Hon. Wakoli Wafula dismissed claims of Nzoia Sugar Company’s impending sale and accused DAP-K Party Leader of attempting to undermine him.

Bungoma County Assembly Speaker Hon. Emmanuel Situma and MCAs also attended the funeral.
