Azimio la umoja one Kenya coalition has called off anti government protests that were scheduled to take place on Wednesday in different parts of the country
In a statement to newsroom, the coalition said instead of taking to the streets, they will hold solidarity parades and vigil to the victims of police brutality in various locations across the country
The coalition called all their followers to come out in large numbers to light candles and lay flowers for the victims of police brutality during previous demonstrations
In their statement, 50 deaths have reported in different parts of the country with hundreds nursing grave injuries in different hospitals across the country
“Azimio has made the decision that on Wednesday, rather than go to the streets for the peaceful demonstrations as earlier announced, we will hold solidarity parades and vigil to the victims of police brutality in all parts of the country,” reads part of the statement
We are calling Kenyans to come and light candles and lay flowers in remembrance and giving respect to the victims. During the vigils, candle lighting and laying of flowers, we encourage Kenyans to say a prayer and read out the names of the police brutality. We shall provide the list of the victims in time for the exercise
Azimio has also requested church leaders to dedicate the time from Friday, Saturday and Sunday to pray for the victims of police brutality witnessed during the last protests
“We also ask Kenyans to pray also International Criminal Court takes up the matter based on an expanded list of perpetrators that we intent to furnish with the court in due course,” added Azimio
