Waiguru was first elected as CoG chairperson in September 2022 after she defeated Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku who had been fronted by Azimio side
She has worked closely with the National Government in rolling out universal healthcare and subsidised fertilizers
In her tenure, she has also found herself at loggerheads with the National Government and Senate over devolved funds advanced to the counties
Immediately after winning her first term, she unsuccessfully lobbied to have the Senate increase devolved fubds to 35 per cent of the National Government
While the governors have been unsuccessful in increasing amounts allocated to counties, under her tenure the devolved units have been receiving timely disbursements from the National Government
Tbis is the first time since the creature of the 47 devolved units in 2013 that the National Government has not delayed disbursements to counties
