Kitui South is one of the 8 constituencies in Kitui County. The population of the constituency as per National Housing and population Survey (2019) is 1,136,187.
It has two sub counties namely Mutomo and Ikutha and six wards namely Ikanga-Kyatune, Mutomo-Kibwea, Ikutha, Athi, Kanziko and Mutha-Mathima Wards respectively
“Mutha Ward alone covers an area of 3,477 Square Kilometre more than Elgeyo-Marakwet County-now you see why some areas will remain under deserviced,” Socioeconomic Analyst Poses.
The constituency covers an area of 6,133.70 square kilometers two times of Elgeyo-Marakwet County.
Kitui South Constituency experiences the highest incidence of poverty in Eastern province which stood at 76 per cent by 2012 according to study by Ministry of Planning and National Development titled: Geographic Dimensions of Well -Being in Kenya;
The fact that the constituency covers the Eastern part of Tsavo National park is another potentially significant factor for economic growth in the area.

Elgeyo-Marakwet is one of the 47 counties located in the former Rift Valley Province. The largest town is Iten which also hosts the county headquarters
It borders the counties of West Pokot to the North and Baringo County to the East, Southeast and South, Uasin Gishu to the Southwest and West, and Trans Nzoia to the northwest
According to Kenya National Bureau of Statics 2019 Census, the county has a population of 454, 480 and covers a size of 3,050 KM²
