Tourism: CS Malonza Assures Kitui MCAs Opening Kasaala-Ithumba Tsavo East National Park Gates

Members of Kitui County Assembly have unanimously agreed to champion for the interests of the people and work closely with the national leaders in order to trickle down much needed services for the citizens

Speaking on Thursday, 22nd December 2022, after meeting Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage Cabinet Secretary Peninah Malonza, pushed for the establishment of tourists’ attraction sites within the county to boost revenue sharing basket in both levels of governments

Accompanied by a bunch of other elected MCAs, the team led by county assembly speaker Kevin Kinengo Katisya lauded the CS commitments and overwhelming tasks, reaffirming her their full support to position Kitui county in terms of wealth economic recovery and job opportunities as it has always been ranked behind since independence

Among the issues raised by the County Assembly members are how the ministry can help in combating the human-wildlife conflict, especially in areas bordering game reserves, corporate social responsibility for the Kitui residents from the ministry

Creation of tourist sites in Kitui, compensation of victims of the wildlife related issues and how the ministry of Tourism can create more job opportunities to the people of Kitui.

On her part, the CS extolled the members for having a youthful assembly, pointing out that it is a turning point for the leadership of Kitui.

She promised to ensure that issues of human-wildlife conflict are resolved amicably and compensation made where due. She also affirmed that she will push for Kasaala and Ithumba gates in Kitui South to open up for tourists to visit Tsavo East National Park through Kitui.

On his part, Mutha MCA Hon. Dominic Mwamisi alias Ndawa sought CS intervention to secure Kitui South Game Reserve and and help in removing camel herders, who assured them of moving away the astray elephants invading farms in Mutha Ward.

“What we are requesting Madam CS is that to recruit local game rangers in order to create opportunities for our people,” Mwamisi pleaded.

Malonza responded positively assuring him of also putting in place mechanism to fastrack compensation process of the late Angela Mutheu Mutuku who passed on after a snake bite from Kathingu in Mathima Location

Other members of county assembly who attended the luncheon are Dominic Mwamisi (Mutha Ward), Boniface Kimuli (Kanziku Ward), David Masaku (Mutomo/Kibwea ward), Harrison Maluki (Migwani Ward), Judith Wanza (Nuu Ward), Jeremiah Mutua (Nguni Ward) Aaron Kasele (Mutitu Ward), Journalist Jacqueline Kalenga, Deborah Kathalu, and Fridah Maua

CS Penina urged the members to work with the national government for the benefit of Kitui residents adding that she will engage the Executive arm of the County governments to streamline service delivery between his ministry and county governments
